Henrico County Caucuses
Due to congressional redistricting, a complex process has been made even more complicated. First, you need to determine if you have been impacted by redistricting. To view overlay maps for both the old and new district lines, click here for the 3rd Congressional District and click here for the 7th Congressional District. You can also review these precinct lists:

7th Congressional District Conventions
For the 7th Congressional District, there will be two separate conventions this year and two separate tracks:
Track 1: (based on old Congressional District lines)
- 2012 National Delegate Selection – the HCDC will hold a caucus to elect Henrico County delegates to attend district and state conventions where national delegates to Charlotte will be elected.
Track 2: (based on new Congressional District lines)
- 7th Congressional District Nominating Convention – the HCDC will hold a caucus to elect delegates to attend the district convention to vote for their candidate of preference for the Democratic nomination.
Track 1 – National Delegate Selection (Old District Lines)

HCDC Presidential (State Delegate) Caucus
The Democratic Party of Virginia issued its Call to Convention for the purpose of firing up Democrats for the important year ahead – as well as to elect members to the Democratic National Committee and to elect “national delegates” who will attend the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte.
The first step in the process is (i) filing to be a “state delegate” and then (ii) attending a congressional district convention and state convention for the purpose of electing “national delegates”.
Henrico County was allocated 30 state delegates and 6 state alternates from the 3rd Congressional District — and 75 state delegates and 15 state alternates from the 7th Congressional District.
The “state delegate” pre-filing deadline passed Monday, April 16, 2012 and there were more delegate positions available than the number of Henrico candidates. Thus, the Henrico County Democratic Committee caucus to “elect state delegates” scheduled for Saturday, April 21st at the Dumbarton Public Library has been canceled.
All individuals who properly filed before the deadline have been declared
“state delegates”. These state delegates will now proceed to their respective Congressional District Convention and the State Convention.

The 2012 National Democratic Convention will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina on September 3-6th, 2012. The convention is where the Democratic Party officially nominates its candidates for President and Vice-President of the United States.
National delegates and alternates will be elected at Congressional District Conventions and at the State Convention. This is a highly competitive process as there are only 123 National Delegates and 9 Alternates for the entire state.

7th Congressional District Nominating Convention & HCDC Caucus
Earlier today, David Hunsicker withdrew from the 7th Congressional District nominating race. Pursuant to Section 12.8 of the Democratic Party of Virginia’s Party Plan, this withdrawal leaves Wayne Powell as the only qualified candidate for the nomination – and thus, the Democratic nominee to go on to defeat Eric Cantor in November!
As a result, both the Henrico County Democratic Committee caucus (to elect “district delegates”) scheduled for Saturday, April 14th and the 7th Congressional District Nominating Convention scheduled for Saturday, April 28th have been cancelled.
We thank David Hunsicker and Wayne Powell for embracing the challenge to run for elected office, it requires a huge sacrifice and they both deserve our thanks.
As we head into a tough general election battle, let’s all give our full support to our nominee (and the next congressman) from the 7th Congressional District – Wayne Powell. Check out Wayne’s website for ways to get involved.
On to victory!
