BATTLE FOR THE BLUE 2012
On Sunday, April 29th 2012, the Henrico County Democratic Committee hosted its 7th Annual Signature Dinner & Silent Auction, Battle for the Blue at the Crossroads Art Center. We had a great turnout and everyone agreed that it was a very successful event.
Our evening began with a social hour during which we listened to The John Winntet and bid on a wide range of silent auction items. We were proud to be joined by Senator Mark Warner. Congressman Bobby Scott served as our Master of Ceremonies and did a wonderful job of emceeing and introducing our other dignitaries and elected officials in attendance – David Mill, Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Virginia (DPVA), Senator Donald McEachin, Delegate Jennifer McClellan who brought us a message from Governor Tim Kaine, Delegate Delores McQuinn, Delegate Joe Morrissey, Supervisor Frank Thornton, Supervisor Tyrone Nelson, Commonwealth’s Attorney Shannon Taylor and School Board Member, John Montgomery. We also heard from Wayne Powell, Candidate for the 7th District.
Our Keynote Speaker was Aneesh Chopra, former United States Chief Technology Officer under President Obama and Virginia’s Secretary of Technology under Governor Kaine who spoke on “Winning the Future through Open Innovation.” The evening ended with the “not so silent” silent auction with John Montgomery acting as auctioneer. Thank you to all those who participated and donated to the silent auction.
A special thanks to our amazing fundraising committee, event sponsors, elected officials, our Master of Ceremonies, Congressman Bobby Scott, and of course, our Keynote Speaker, Aneesh Chopra.
As a Committee, we are committed to battle for the blue in Henrico! We look forward to another superb event next year – we hope you’ll join us!

2011 HCDC Picnic
The Henrico County Democratic Committee (HCDC) hosted its Annual Picnic on Monday, May 9th, 2011 at Three Lakes Park (in the Fairfield Magisterial District). We had a great turnout – over 100 people joined us for a good time. We were excited to have over 50 guests in attendance!
At the picnic, we kicked-off our Values in Action program through local volunteer work — our first Values in Action activity was an HCDC Food Drive!
The focus of the event was simple – let’s build our momentum to Bring Back the Blue in 2011. We were joined by Senator Donald McEachin, Delegate Joe Morrissey, Delegate Delores McQuinn, Supervisor Frank Thornton and School Board Members – John Montgomery & Lamont Bagby.
Each elected official spoke for a few minutes on the state of the General Assembly, Board of Supervisors and the School Board, respectively. They emphasized the importance of this upcoming election and ensuring that as a Committee, we work to mobilize the troops in November!
Thanks to everyone who came out to our HCDC Annual Picnic! Many thanks to our volunteers, grill masters and all those who donated to the HCDC Food Drive!

BRING BACK THE BLUE 2011

The Henrico County Democratic Committee hosted its 6th Annual Signature Dinner & Silent Auction, Bring Back the Blue on Sunday, April 17th 2011 at the American Legion Post 244. An exceptional level of enthusiasm and participation made this one of our best events ever!
We were proud to be joined by a list of dignitaries, starting with David Mills – Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Virginia (DPVA) who provided an exciting welcome. He announced new DPVA initiatives and highlighted the path forward for our Party in 2011.
A familiar face to the HCDC served as our Master of Ceremonies, The Fighter of the House – Delegate Joe Morrissey. Delegate Morrissey did a great job emceeing and introducing our elected officials in attendance – Former Rep. Glenn Nye, Senator Donald McEachin, Delegate Jennifer McClellan, Supervisor Frank Thornton and School Board Member, Lamont Bagby. We were also joined by Clovia Lawrence who energized the audience with an inspirational speech, Democrats on the Move.
… And there’s more!
Our Keynote Speaker was none other than our 70th Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia and former Democratic National Committee Chairman, Tim Kaine! The Keynote Address was truly the highlight of the evening. Gov. Kaine fired up the audience by emphasizing the importance of Henrico County in 2011 & 2012. He noted that we have a big job ahead of us, but the key to electoral success is growing and organizing locally.
We ended the evening with a successful silent auction, organized by Cathy Woodson. This year, we had a special ticket item – an autographed 2011 VCU Rams Basketball! We are grateful to all those who participated and donated to the silent auction.
A special thanks to our amazing fundraising committee, event sponsors, elected officials, Clovia Lawrence, our Master of Ceremonies, Delegate Joe Morrissey, and of course, our Keynote Speaker, Gov. Tim Kaine!
As a Committee, we are committed to bringing back the blue in Henrico! We look forward to another superb event next year – we hope you’ll join us!

KEEPING VIRGINIA BLUE 2009
Sunday, May 31, 2009, at the Belmont Recreation Center, Henrico, VA
Keeping Virginia Blue 2009, the 4th annual signature dinner and fundraiser for HCDC, was held on Sunday, May 31st at the Belmont Recreation Center. Mark Brumitt provided music while the guests enjoyed appetizers and checked out all the great items that were donated for the silent auction. Steve Shannon, candidate for Attorney General, addressed the gathering. We then heard from Mira Signer, representing Mike Signer and Sylvia Wagner, representing Jody Wagner before enjoying a buffet dinner.
Senator Donald McEachin served as the Master of Ceremonies and kept the evening activity flowing. After hearing from James Towey and Tom Shields, candidates for the House of Delegates, David Kovacs presented each of them with a generous donation from HCDC. Our keynote speaker for the evening was Dr. Bob Holsworth, who shared his perspectives on the candidates and the upcoming Democratic Primary and general elections this fall. Among the other dignitaries attending were Delegate Jennifer McClellan, Supervisor Frank Thornton, and School Board members Lamont Bagby and John Montgomery. The evening ended with John Montgomery acting as auctioneer for the “live” portion of the silent auction. Thanks to John, the silent auction is always a sell-out – and is anything but silent!
A special thank you to Kimberly Kyle and her committee for such a wonderful evening. We all look forward to 2010!

HCDC ANNUAL PICNIC
Monday, May 11, 2009 at Three Lakes Park
Our second annual picnic was held on May 11th at Three Lakes Park. What a difference a year makes! Rather than the record heat of 2008, we had a cool, rainy day. But the skies cleared and the sun came out just as the grills were firing up. While we enjoyed hamburgers and hot dogs provided by HCDC, plus all the great side dishes and deserts that our members brought, we heard from Jon Bowerbank, candidate for Lt. Governor, Tom Shields, candidate for the 73rd House of Delegates district, and James Towey, candidate for the 56th House of Delegates district. Representatives from the other campaigns also spoke. Senator Donald McEachin, Delegate Joe Morrisey, and Supervisor Frank Thornton also attended.
A special thanks to Tom Herbert and Daniel Plaugher for manning the grills.

Four new members to the DNC were elected as well as 150 voting delegates (125 for Obama, 25 for Clinton) to the National Convention in Denver this August.

2008 June HCDC Monthly Meeting and Picnic Was a Huge Success
Over fifty people attended, brought food, cooked on grills, met 7th CD Candidate Anita Hartke, State Senator Don McEachin, State Delegate Joe Morrisey, and Henrico Supervisor Frank Thornton among others. The hundred degree temperatures did not dampen the enthusiasm of our many Henrico Democrats.
