Henrico Dems Pancake Breakfast and Other News

Brian Cannon talks about redistricting reform at our Pancake Breakfast.

Our Pancake Breakfast at Applebee's was a great success! We raised over $1,000 which will help pay for Democratic sample ballots and other candidate support, especially critical heading into the 2019 local elections next year. Brian Cannon, Executive Director of OneVirginia2021, spoke about redistricting reform - a timely topic given recent court decisions, including one this week involving several Henrico House of Delegate seats. And, several guests were sporting their new Henrico Dems t-shirts which looked fantastic. Thank you Lizzie Drucker-Basch. We may place a second order, so please contact Lizzie if interested.

At the Pancake Breakfast, we were fortunate to have both 2018 Democratic Congressional candidates with us, Congressman Donald McEachin (4th CD) and Abigail Spanberger (7th CD). They, along with Henrico Coordinated Campaign field organizers, encouraged everyone to support our 2018 Democratic candidates and vote November 6th. Delegate Debra Rodman (73rd Dist) and Commonwealth's Attorney Shannon Taylor joined us as well. Danny Plaugher announced that he will be running in the 2018 Special Election for the Brookland Board of Supervisors seat. Other candidates for this seat are welcome to speak at our next monthly meeting on July 16th. We will be voting on the nomination process for the Brookland seat, so be sure to attend. Dates for the Democratic candidate nomination event and Special Election will be announced soon.

Now, back to that redistricting reform news. After Brian Cannon's talk at the Pancake Breakfast, a 4th Circuit panel ruled this Tuesday that several Virginia House Districts which are majority African-American must be redrawn by October 30, 2018, in time for the 2019 House of Delegate races. Republicans have announced they will appeal this decision. Stay tuned, as this case could effect several Henrico House of Delegate seats. Click on this VPAP map to see which Districts could be impacted.

Thanks to all who helped with our Pancake Breakfast. Planning for additional fundraisers is underway, including our Oct. 11th Blue Henrico Rally, and possibly another Pancake breakfast at the Applebee's on Laburnum Ave. If you would like to get involved, please contact Cathy Woodson, 1st Vice Chair/Fundraising.
