Important Update on Brookland Board of Supervisor Seat

Brookland Board of Supervisor Courtney Lynch resigned effective June 30.  A Special Election to fill the Brookland Supervisor position will be held Nov. 6th, the same day as the General Election. The Henrico Democratic Committee is responsible for determining the method by which our Party will nominate a Democratic candidate for the Brookland seat. Henrico Dems members will vote on the nomination method at our July 16 monthly meeting.  We need a quorum of members present in order to  vote on the candidate nomination method, so members are strongly encouraged to attend. Democratic candidates for the Brookland seat are also invited to speak. The meeting will take place at the Western Henrico Government Center, Administrative Boardroom, 4301 E. Parham Rd, Henrico, VA 23228. As always, all Democrats are welcome.

The two options for nominating a candidate are:

1. Assembled Caucus - Everyone meets in the same room at the same time. Candidates are able to make speeches, providing voters an opportunity to learn more about the candidates before voting.

2.  Unassembled Caucus (Firehouse Primary) - Voting takes place over a period of several hours. People are allowed to come in, vote, and leave - similar to a polling place on Election Day.

All registered. voters in the Brookland Magisterial District may vote in the caucus as long as they sign a Caucus Declaration form. Participation  is not limited to Henrico Dems members. The Caucus Declaration form certifies that the participant: 1) is a Democrat, 2) is a registered voter within the jurisdiction for which the caucus is held (in this instance, Brookland), 3) believes in the principles of the Democratic Party, 4) and does not intend to support any candidate who is opposed to a Democratic nominee in the next ensuing election.

Two other candidate nomination methods, primary and convention, are not available in this instance because of the short time period within which to certify a Democratic candidate.
